Police arrest 22-year-old over unlawful possession of fire arm

A 22-year-old Anambra-bound male passenger, one Francis Obinna Okoye, has been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command over alleged possession of firearm.

The police said that the suspect was discovered to have been in unlawful possession of the firearm upon a stop-and-search of the vehicle carrying Okoye and others to Anambra State along Lagos-Benin expressway by Ovia River.

According to the press statement issued by the state police image-maker, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the suspect upon interrogation confessed one Emma whose surname was not given as the person who gave him the gun .

“On 07/04/2024 at about 0230hrs the operatives of the command monitoring unit while on stop and search duty along Lagos-Benin expressway by Ovia river axis intercepted a commercial bus loaded with passengers from Lagos state heading to Anambra state, conduct search on the bus and on the passengers.

“During the search, the following items concealed in a small bag were recovered from Francis Obinna Okoye, age 22 years old of No 26 Jatto Street, Okolo, Lagos State.

“The suspect made a statement and confessed one Emma whose surname is unknown gave him the gun to threaten his uncle Mr. Paul Okoye, who was alleged to have killed his father with charms.

“On Monday 08/04/2024, the operatives took the suspect to Lagos State to arrest Mr. Paul Okoye, and when the operatives got to Lagos State, they found out that the suspect lied to them. The suspect will soon be processed to court,” the police informed.

Also, the command revealed that it has arrested one Blessing Ogunu a staff of Bliss Legacy Limited and a-self kidnapped victim and the others alleged conspirators.

Nwabuzor revealed that the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of the command had on March 23rd, 2024 received a complaint from one Samuel Prince Omomuzo of No 102 Ihama Road, GRA, Benin City who reported that one Blessing Ogunu, a staff of Bliss Legacy Limited, Benin City was kidnapped in Benin

The police said that the complainant claimed that the kidnappers demanded for four million, eight hundred thousand naira (#4,800,000.00) ransom for the release of the victim.

“The operatives using technical intelligence arrested supposed victim of kidnap, one Blessing Ogunu, Esther Anthony and Ukpebor Joel.

“During interrogation, the supposed Blessing Ogunu confessed that she masterminded herself kidnapped because her company refused to allocate land to a customer whom they had received money from. The suspects will soon be charged to court,” Nwabuzor concluded.
