The National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), located near Jos in Kuru, has been tasked with providing a definitive roadmap for policies that would alleviate the current challenges facing Nigeria.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, issued this charge on Tuesday when he received participants of the Senior Executive Course 46 of NIPPS during a courtesy call at Government House, Asaba.

The governor reminded the participants, led by Air Vice Marshal David Solomon, that the institute is responsible for managing policies and strategies that will shape Nigeria and Africa. He stated, “The importance of your institute lies in fostering critical thinking to encourage the training and development of professionals in policy analysis, strategic planning, and leadership.”

“As a high-level center for informed research, reflection, and dialogue, the country looks to you to provide a roadmap for genuine policy initiatives and execution,” he continued. “The institute remains our country’s foremost intellectual hub for developing a cadre of high-class technocrats. It has also contributed to deepening democracy in Nigeria and other African countries by providing a platform for learning and sharing ideas.”

“You are therefore tasked with managing policies and strategies that will shape Nigeria and Africa,” he emphasized. “Delta is a state that believes in continuity, and I have promised Deltans that I will do more for them.”

“Your visit to Delta shows that the state is peaceful, despite the Okuama incident on March 14. We have managed it, and the military has shown a lot of restraint. As of today, the military has withdrawn from Okuama, and we have established an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in that area.”

“But this does not mean that those involved will be set free. It is just that innocent people will not continue to have problems with the military.”

“I assure you that coming to Delta State is a good choice, and all the information you need will be provided.”

Earlier, the team leader, Air Vice Marshal David Solomon, speaking on behalf of the Director-General of the Institute, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, stated that the Institute was conceived as a high-level institution with the primary objective of serving as the nation’s foremost policy think tank and developing a cadre of top-class leaders with high intellectual capacity.

He commended Governor Oborevwori for continuing the sustainable socio-economic growth and development of the state from where his predecessor left off, and expressed appreciation to the state government for the warm reception accorded to them since their arrival in the state.
