ROGERS Ofime’s Native Media TV and the Edo State Government are collaborating on a new telenovela to address irregular migration, human trafficking, rehabilitation, and redemption.

The 78-episode series commissioned by Africa Magic will be broadcast on all Multichoice and Africa Magic platforms, including Showmax and Peacock, reaching audiences in 48 African countries.

The Edo State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism and the Edo Film Project oversee and actively support the project, a testament to its thematic focus and societal relevance.

At a meeting held on Friday, May 17, at the office of the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, Ofime, the Chief Executive of Native Media TV, highlighted the importance of setting the series in Edo State.

He noted the state and south-south region’s historical context with irregular migration and the authenticity it brings to the storytelling.

Ofime praised the efforts of the Edo State Government and various agencies in combating this issue.

The producer of ‘Oloibiri’, ‘Voiceless’ and ‘Wura’ also commended Mrs Obaseki, for her advocacy for female empowerment and support of organizations and charities that define the role of women and girls in societal development.

He said her initiatives aim to reduce dependency on coercive forces that aid human trafficking and ensure that returnees are appropriately reintegrated into society.

The filmmaker further disclosed that the telenovela will also showcase the significant strides made in the creative space and highlight the growth, technical expertise, and self-dependence fostered by initiatives from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

Ofime equally commended the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Uyi Oduwa Malaka, for making Edo State a hospitable environment for filmmakers.
