No fewer than 10 people were rescued alive on Thursday as a four-storey building collapsed at 15 Iga Idunganran Street, Lagos Island.
All the rescued were attended to by the LASEMA and LASAMBUS Pre-Hospital Care Teams before being transported to a nearby hospital. In all, a total of 10 people were rescued.

The rescue consisted of seven adult males and three adult females, some of whom suffered various degrees of injuries.
Information gathered at the scene of the incident revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was an ongoing renovation, as the structure was already weak and had been marked by LASBCA for evacuation.
According to the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, there was no loss of lives, disclosing that the building thereby self-collapsed due to its dilapidated state.
“Seven people were rescued alive and were sterilised a few minutes into the search & rescue operations. The extrication of the three victims that were trapped was conducted by the permanent secretary.
“On arrival of the LASEMA Response Teams at the incident scene, it was discovered that a four-story residential building had self-collapsed, trapping some residents at the above-mentioned address.
“Residents of the affected building had reportedly resisted the state government’s directives through their outright refusal to relocate.
“Search and Rescue Operation is still ongoing and will be followed by recovery and deconstruction of the collapsed building to ground zero with the agency’s sophisticated heavy-duty equipment (excavator),” LASEMA’s permanent secretary said.
