PEOPLE of faith should not keep quiet in the face of unacceptable situations. We should speak up, speak against, and speak forth. God’s people should speak up so that the enemies of righteousness would know that God still has His human agents on earth, and that those agents will not allow things to degenerate under their watch. That was what David did; he spoke up. Another example is Elijah; he also spoke up. He confronted the king who was not ruling in the fear of God.

It is important to speak boldly against evil. Christians in particular should make it clear that we will neither condone nor compromise with evil. Being vocal against sin is a divine duty. God told Ezekiel:

Ezekiel 3: 17 – 18 Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me. If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him or speak out to warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood

Interestingly, there is a redemptive essence to our being vocal against sin. Christians do not condemn sin so that the sinner can be destroyed, but so that he can be saved. Our Lord Jesus hates sin, but He loves the sinner (John 3: 16, Romans 5: 8).

Christians should speak forth the will of God. When famine became unbearable in the land, Elisha spoke that there would be abundance (2Kings chapter 7). By all human or material indications, what he predicted was most improbable. However, his word surely came to pass. The very next day, there was abundance (2Kings 7: 18).

By their words, people of faith enforced righteousness. Moses held King Pharaoh and all his magicians to ransom. Elijah also did the same; not by violence, but merely by speaking.

By their words also, people of faith can cause a shift in the fortunes of the land. Moses spoke, and the Red Sea parted so that Israel could be free from Egypt (Exodus 14: 13). Joshua spoke, and the sun and moon stood still so that Israel could win a war (Joshua chapter 10). Elijah spoke and locked up the rain, and it remained so until he decided otherwise (1Kings 17: 1). David spoke, and Goliath fell according to his word (1Samuel 17: 45 – 46). We can go on and on.

What is that unacceptable situation around you today? Speak against it. Also, speak forth that which you desire? The Lord Jesus told us:

Mark 11: 23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.

Speak words of faith this week. Results shall follow.
