A woman, Jokotola, has approached Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that it put an end to the relationship between her and her husband, Adio, on the accounts of irresponsibility, aggressiveness and physical assault.

Jokotola explained that Adio constantly starved her and their children and also refused to meet their other needs.

She also said that peace had long deserted their home because Adio was aggressive and was always beating her over trivial issues.

According to her, he always transferred aggression on their children and thus became hostile towards them.

She added that her husband bought her a phone when the going was good, but that he collected it from her after their relationship fell apart.

She further said that he removed the solar fan he bought and placed in her room.

Jokotola told the court she has had enough of her husband’s atrocities and has therefore decided to call it quits.

The plaintiff prayed for custody of their children while she entreated the court to make her husband responsible for their upkeep.

She also sought an order preventing him from threatening, fighting, or interfering with her private life.

Adio pleaded not liable to the claims but agreed that their union be dissolved.

Jokotola, in her testimony, said, “My lord, I cannot live a minute longer under the same roof with my husband and want to call it quits.

“My husband and I as Muslims held our wedding ceremony in line with Islamic injunction, but he did not pay my bride price.

“I had always desired a blissful relationship in my marriage, but this never came to be all because my husband refused that our marriage worked.

“The more effort I put in ensuring a peaceful home, the more my husband frustrated me.

“My husband lacks patience, while he is also rash and aggressive.

“He gives me hell in our marriage because he is fond of making a big issue out of trivial matters and will end up fighting me.

“He is never willing or ready to listen to my explanation or consider my view on any matter, all because he loves to have his way.

“He became rash and aggressive any time I tried to make my point and would end up beating me.

“He has never been a friend to our children who greatly fear him as a result of his aggressive behaviour.

“Anytime we had a misunderstanding, he would transfer his aggression to our children who have learnt to keep their distance from him.

“Our relationship started to fall apart gradually after he refused to be up to his responsibility in the home.

“He failed in his responsibility as breadwinner and left me to shoulder this.

“The more I complained the more beatings I got.

“He once bought me a handset when our relationship was still redeemable, but he collected it from me after we fought, and he beat me to a pulp.

“At another time, he removed from my room the solar fan he purchased on my behalf.

“My lord, I am unhappy in my marriage and lack peace of mind.

“All I pray for is divorce. “

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case until July 27.
