People of Kwara South senatorial district under the aegis of the Kwara South Development Forum (KSDF) have condemned poor infrastructural growth in the area allegedly by successive governments in the state.
According to a communique issued at the end of the meeting of the forum in Offa yesterday, the people said there should henceforth be a conscious move by all the stakeholders in the area towards turning the tide of development to their side.
The 11-point communique was signed by Chief J.B. Ayeni, (Ekiti), Chairman, Alhaji Shita Adegbola (Ibolos), Vice-chairman and Chief Lanre Ogundeji, (Igbomina), Treasurer.
The socio-cultural group also expressed its support for the autonomy of both the Local Government Areas administration and the legislative arm of government just as it canvassed more agricultural growth in the area and prompt resuscitation of the moribund industries in the zone.
Ironically, one of the products of the KSDF Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed from Share, in Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA) of the state was the Governor of the state for eight uninterrupted years; (29th May 2011 to 29th May 2019).
Kwara state has 16 LGAs, out of which seven are from the Senatorial District.
The KSDF is made up of; Ekitis, Ibolos, and Igbominas Yoruba sub ethnic nationalities of the people of the Senatorial District.
Conspicuous at the meeting were; Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), Ooni of Ike-Ife who was the Royal Father of the Day, Alhaji Raimi Oladimeji, the Chancellor, Al-Hikmah University and Dr. Muheebat Nike Dankaka. While Oladimeji was the Chairman of the summit, Dankaka served as the Chairlady.
The summit resolved that though there are diverse communities in Kwara South with varying interests, it added that they needed to establish a strong organisation to address and champion the socio/cultural/economic and political interests of the people.
Besides, the forum observed with concerns the alleged lack of unity of the people which has disconnected them from their past political relevance. It therefore emphasised the need to revitalise the spirit of unity and togetherness for them to achieve the much-needed sustainable development.
It was further noted, “the development in infrastructure in particular roads are nothing to write home about. It further noted that employment, promotion in the service, State and Federal projects’ location and execution since 1999 had been programmed against the interest of the people of the South”.
