The pro-chancellor and chairman, Governing Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land has described the FUNAAB dam of as the largest he has seen in any Nigerian university.
The number eight pro chancellor who assumed duties on the campus on July 15, 2024, stated this during a familiarisation tour of the university’s facilities, who expressed his admiration of the institution, commended the management of the institution for the significant investment made towards the construction and maintenance of the dam.
He lauded the vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Babatunde Kehinde for his resilience in fulfilling the dreams, vision, and mission of the founding fathers of the university, against all odds.
He noted that the dam containing 7 billion litres of water could become a tourist attraction, facilitating aquacultural activities, adding that “the aquatic products from these activities could generate substantial income for the university.”
He encouraged the management of the institution to ensure the continuous cultivation of the dam, highlighting its potential to serve the immediate university community and beyond.
Oba Olabomi, who also visited the Institute of Human Resources Development (INHURD), also described the institute as a university within a university.
While suggesting that the institute should consider introducing diploma certificate programmes to boost the institution’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), he assured that the access road.
The vice chancellor expressed his gratitude to the pro-chancellor, noting that FUNAAB has become an integral part of Iragbiji Land.
He described the pro-chancellor’s maiden visit as homecoming, appreciating his declaration and acceptance of FUNAAB as part of his domain during an interactive meeting at the Green Chamber.
He expressed optimism that FUNAAB would flourish during the pro-chancellor’s tenure by the grace of God.
In his remarks, while welcoming the pro-chancellor and other members of the governing council to the institute, the director of INHURD, Professor Sheriff Adewuyi, highlighted the two major programmes of the institute to be JUPEB and other pre-degree programmes.
