An elder statesman in Taraba state, Chief John Mamman has condemned the attack and killing of the 3rd Class chief of Chanchanji in Takum local government area of Taraba, HRH Alhj. Abdul Hamid Kungbera and his son, Yusuf.

Chief Mamman while interacting with Nigerian Tribune on the phone on Sunday, described the attack as devastating, capable of creating disunity among ethnics in the axis.

He expressed displeasure that the attack was the third of its kind on the life of the late monarch by certain individuals who were out to ensure a possible breakout of ethnic crisis in the area.

He said, “It’s unfortunate that certain people are out to ensure that there is a crisis among ethnics in the Chanchanji area of Takum. It’s not the issue of criminals. It’s those who have been doing everything possible to create disunity among ethnics in the area.

“This attack on the late traditional ruler is the third of its kind. Certain bad people have been going after his life for some time now. It’s not about criminals.

“It’s unfortunate that the incident is coming now that Governor Agbu Kefas is doing all within his powers to ensure total peace across Taraba and ensure food security.”

Mamman decried the spate of attacks on traditional rulers in Taraba state in recent times, noting that the idea of killing traditional rulers who are mediators of peace was portraying the state in a negative form.

While urging Governor Kefas to continue his good work of ensuring total restoration of peace across Taraba, Mamman appealed to community leaders and all well-meaning citizens of the area to cooperate and assist the security agencies with useful information to help track down perpetrators of the dastardly act for justice.
