Federal and Delta State governments have been called upon to expedite action on the reconstruction of the Okuama community, which was levelled in the aftermath of the brutal killing of 17 soldiers, including 3 officers, in March this year.

The call is contained in a four-point communiqué issued today at the end of a meeting in Asaba.

According to the Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major-General Felix Mujakpuero Rtd, Orhue 1, the early reconstruction of the Okuama community would alleviate the sufferings of the people and facilitate the early return of the displaced residents to their ancestral home.

In the communiqué issued at the end of their meeting in Asaba, the monarchs’ chairman said:

“We want to specially thank the leadership of the Ukoko Irie Urhobo, led by its Chairman and Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, who recently visited the Okuama Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp at Okuama community and presented several food items to the embattled people. This gesture will go a long way towards alleviating their suffering.”

The monarchs tasked the newly elected Council Chairmen to embark on meaningful development projects in their various Council areas to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate, even as they congratulated them on their electoral victory.

The royal fathers commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the various developmental projects being commissioned across Delta State, particularly the Ibusa/Okpanam bypass, which they said would decongest vehicular traffic around the Koka junction and reduce man-hour loss in traffic gridlock along the Okpanam/Koka junction corridor.

The meeting was attended by traditional rulers from across the three senatorial districts, including the 1st Vice Chairman and Pere of Akugbene Mien, Pere SP Luke Kalanama VIII; the 2nd Vice Chairman and Obi of Ubulu Unor, Agbogidi Henry Kikachukwu I, PhD; and the immediate past Chairman of the Council and Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, among others.
