The Anambra State President of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Adigwe Chikwelu, has said that worker salaries in the state are regular every 25th of the month.

Chikwelu, who disclosed this in an interview with Nigerian Tribune in Awka on Sunday, explained that the State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, inherited a salary structure from his predecessor, Gov Willie Obiano and has since maintained it with a 10 per cent increase in salaries of civil servants across the state without any labour agitation.

I can’t tell the number of workers in the state but there is new employment of over eight thousand teachers, medical personnel, etc.

So, we are very much in a cordial relationship with the Anambra State Government in terms of salary structure.

We are patiently waiting for the governor to announce the new minimum wage, the President noted.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL, the umbrella body of all the youth groups across the six geopolitical zones in the country, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving N70,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers, with a promise to review it every three years.

The President General of CONYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, who commended the President via a statement, said, “This new minimum wage is truly a living wage that will put smiles on the faces of Nigerian workers while also encouraging them to put in their best at their respective places of work.

We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his intervention in the negotiations, knowing the economic challenges faced by many Nigerians and the need to provide urgent succour to workers.

We call on the Federal Government to ensure that the various state governments are assisted and mandated to pay the new minimum wage because if it’s not properly handled, most states will be unable to pay their workers the approved new wage.

We urge Mr President to give the needed support and assistance to private establishments, most especially media houses in the country, to pay the minimum wage to their workers and journalists who risk their lives on a daily basis to perform their duties, which are pertinent to the growth and development of the nation.

We thank the President of the National Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and that of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, for coming to an agreement with the federal government on the way forward.

President Tinubu has truly shown that he is a father to all Nigerians with this wonderful gesture.

The nation is surely on the path of progress and development, the statement concluded.
