A total of 204,413 outgoing primary six pupils sat for this year’s placement examination into the public junior secondary schools across the 20 local government areas of the state.

The exam meant for all the interested primary six pulils in both public and private schools in the state was held on Monday at over 400 locations across the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, was said to monitor the exercise with some officials of the ministry in some local government areas including Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ebute-Metta and Ikeja.

A statement by the Head of Public Affairs unit of the ministry, Mr Ganiu Lawal, on Monday, said the commissioner was satisfied with the conduct of the exam as it was hitch-free.

The commissioner also seized the opportunity to reiterate the benefits of enrolling pupils in the state’s public schools.

According to him, aside that public primary and secondary schools in the state are free, they also parade the best of qualified and competent teachers even as the state government pays for both Basic certificate exams (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Exams (WASSCE) for JSS3 and SSS3 students, respectively.

Alli-Balogun pointed out that students in public schools in the state are known for doing well in external exams such as WASSCE and also winning laurels in competitions with other students at the state, national and international levels.

He noted that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s led administration had significantly improved infrastructural facilities, teachers and students welfare, hence, the turn around in the quality of teaching and learning now witnessing in the state in the last five years.
