The teaching of Uvwie dialect of the Urhobo language will commence in schools in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State in September.
A member of a committee set up to develop the curriculum for the teaching of the Uvwie dialect in public schools in the area, Chief Abraham Edjedegba, made the disclosure in a media chat with newsmen during the 30th anniversary special graduation/prize-giving day ceremony of St. Anastasia Heights Montessori and Secondary School International, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.
The respected Uvwie chief disclosed that the Ministry of Basic and Primary Education had approved the teaching of the Uvwie dialect of Urhobo Language only in government schools in Uvwie Local Government Area.
He disclosed that the state government had also approved for the teaching of teachers that teach learners of the Uvwie dialect at Uvwie Hall on Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) road.
Edjedegba, who appreciated and commended the Uvwie monarch Dr. Emmanuel Sideso, for his support for the teaching and learning of Uvwie dialect in Uvwie Local Government Area, also disclosed that the 10th stage of the programme was the commencement of the teaching of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language in all government schools in Uvwie Local Government Area in September 2024.
