Ahead of the August 1 planned nationwide protest against hardship and bad governance, Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to shelve the planned action and give President Bola Tinubu more time to fix the economy.

The APC Chieftain said that the protest would rather create more problems than it aims to resolve.

Contained in a press statement made available to newsmen on Monday, Agbomhere asserted that staging a protest at this early stage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration would be unjust.

He emphasised that Tinubu, who is in the first year of a four-year mandate, deserves time to fulfil his promise of economic recovery amidst an already struggling economy.

“Just as a seed must first die before it can grow and yield a harvest, the current administration is working tirelessly to improve conditions for all Nigerians. Economic recovery is a challenging endeavour, and it is crucial to afford President Tinubu the necessary time to address issues such as inflation and high fuel prices, which are global phenomena, not unique to Nigeria,” Agbomhere said.

He went further to say; “Those threatening to burn down Nigeria shall not succeed. We will not allow them to burn down our beloved nation, no one group has a monopoly on violence.

“At this juncture, I want to make a passionate appeal to Alhaji Aliko Dangote to desist from his recent attacks on the government of President Bola Tinubu. It is a known fact that Nigeria has been fair to Dangote, Nigeria has helped him and he has profited from Nigeria, even at the detriment of other manufacturers, entrepreneurs and the Nigerian buying and consuming public. He must therefore stop forthwith from inciting Nigerians against the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration now.”

“The ruling APC can no longer accommodate saboteurs in its government at this time of unprecedented public scrutiny,” he added.

He also highlighted the need for accountability at the state level, particularly in the Niger Delta region. Agbomhere criticised the tendency to blame federal governance for all administrative failures, likening it to an ostrich hiding from danger.

Furthermore, Agbomhere urged political officeholders from the Niger Delta, including ministers, lawmakers, and heads of boards and parastatals, to perform their duties with integrity.

He emphasised that President Tinubu could not oversee every aspect of governance personally and condemned efforts by certain individuals to undermine the democratically elected government.
