As Nigerians are gearing towards embarking on protests as a result of hardship in the country, the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA) has advised youths not to participate in the planned nationwide protest but to allow total healing of the land after suffering several attacks in the recent past.

Chairman of the Association and Vision Pioneer Throneroom Trust Ministry Kafanchan, Apostle Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, made the call on the sidelines of a special Thanksgiving service for elected and appointed officers from Southern Kaduna in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria, Southern Kaduna Zone in Kafanchan.

Apostle Kure explained that though the region, like any other part of the country, is also experiencing hunger and harsh economic realities, it is not wise to join a protest that might be hijacked by enemies of the land to cause a crisis that will jeopardise the healing process in the land.

He appealed to the people to give the government more time to fix the decay caused by past administrations, especially now that the current government at the federal and state levels has started giving the people of Southern Kaduna hope and inclusivity in appointments and project execution.

Earlier, in a welcome address during the Thanksgiving service, the Vice Chairman of SKCLA and Catholic Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Most Rev. Julius Yakubu Kundi, explained that the programme with the theme “the hands of thanksgiving and prayer was deliberately organised to remind the elected and appointed officers from the area of the heavy moral burden they carry to represent the people.

“We invited you here today to pray for you and to chart a new path on how we can bring our people together so that we can align our goals, hopes, and aspirations to the objectives of modern-day politics, which you are already actively involved in.”

“We are worried about the disunity that exists among you, the political elites, a problem that we see as scandalous and has hampered the growth of our people.

“Our desire in this service of Thanksgiving is to bless and entrust you into the hands of God for divine direction on how to manage these differences amongst yourselves and the political parties in Southern Kaduna.”

The Guest Speaker and ECWA President, Reverend Dr Job Ayuba Bagat Mallam, charged the elected and appointed officers to be faithful in all they do, take their work seriously, and chart a new course for the people of Southern Kaduna to give them a new lease of life.

Responding on behalf of other elected and appointed officers, the Member representing Zango Kataf Jaba Constituency at the House of Representatives, Mr Amos Gwamna Magaji, thanked SKCLA for organising the Thanksgiving and prayer programme, describing it as uncommon.

Amos said the development has further cemented their relationship as elected and appointed representatives from one zone.

He used the occasion to appeal to the people of the area not to participate in the August 1 planned protest against the government in view of the unpleasant consequences if, in the end, it is hijacked by hoodlums.
