The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced that it will not participate in the planned nationwide protest, citing President Tinubu’s prompt response to the people’s demands and his efforts in the educational sector.
NANS President Pedro Obi, in a statement issued on Tuesday, commended President Tinubu’s leadership, saying, “We appreciate the President’s efforts in addressing some of our demands, including the operational status of the Dangote Refinery. This shows his responsiveness to our concerns.”
Obi also praised the President’s commitment to education, stating, “The introduction of student loans and the endorsement of local government autonomy are significant steps forward, demonstrating a commitment to the advancement and welfare of Nigerian students and the Nigerian people.”
However, Obi emphasized that more needs to be done, stating, “While we acknowledge these positive actions, we believe that more profound structural changes are necessary for the prosperity of our nation. We call on President Tinubu to immediately intensify the process of restructuring Nigeria towards true federalism.”

Obi urged students to remain calm and engage constructively with the government, saying, “Our focus remains on dialogue and advocacy to ensure that the interests of Nigerian students are well-represented and protected. We must continue to engage constructively with the government to achieve our goals.”
When asked about the planned protest, Obi said, “We will not be participating in the protest at this time. Should there be a need for a protest in the future, we will notify the general public in a timely and orderly manner. We are not opposed to protests, but we believe that dialogue is key at this moment.”
Obi also emphasized NANS’ commitment to the Nigerian people, saying, “We are committed to ensuring that the voices of Nigerian students are heard and that their interests are protected. We will continue to work tirelessly to achieve this goal.”
