Three groups, Take It Back (North Central), Middle Belt Economic Forum, and Renewed Hope Prosperity Ambassadors, have called off their planned protest in the Northern states, including Abuja.

The decision was announced during a joint press conference held on Tuesday in Abuja.

The groups cited concerns about the potential for destabilization and harm to their communities as the primary reason for their decision. This conclusion was reached after a careful appraisal of the situation and a fruitful interaction with the Minister of Water Resources, Prof. Joseph Utsev.

Dr. Amodu Ben, speaking at the conference, also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and other critical stakeholders in the North Central for their efforts in maintaining peace and order in the region.

“We have come to this decision not out of fear or intimidation, but out of a deep understanding of the current political climate and the potential consequences of our actions,” said Dr. Ben.

He emphasized that the groups recognized the right to protest as a fundamental aspect of citizenship but stressed the importance of peaceful and constructive dialogue to avoid catastrophic consequences.

Dr. Ben highlighted instances where peaceful protests had escalated into violent confrontations, resulting in widespread destruction, loss of life, and immense human suffering.

The groups urged citizens to redirect their energies towards constructive dialogue and engagement with the government.

“Let us join forces to build a brighter future for the Middle Belt region, one that is founded upon the principles of peace, prosperity, and cooperation,” Dr. Ben said.

He expressed heartfelt commendation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other critical stakeholders in the North Central for their dedication to maintaining peace.

“Their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and order in the region have not gone unnoticed, and their dedication to the well-being of our nation is truly commendable.”

Dr. Ben also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in driving developmental programs and alleviating the burdens of citizens.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the President’s diligent efforts to improve the lives of citizens, and we must unite in our support and collaboration with him to achieve our shared objectives,” he added.

In closing, Dr. Ben called for unity and cooperation to build a brighter future for the Middle Belt region, emphasizing the importance of peace, prosperity, and collective efforts to create a harmonious and thriving society for future generations.
