The Borno government has announced a temporary relaxation of the curfew imposed in the state to enable Muslim faithful to observe Juma’at prayers.

In a statement issued on Friday, Borno Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Daso, said the curfew would be relaxed from 12 pm to 3 pm to allow Muslims to attend prayers at mosques closer to their communities.

According to the statement, the curfew would be reinstated from 3 pm on Friday to 6 am on Saturday, and citizens were advised to shun all forms of violence.

The security agencies assured the public of adequate protection of lives and property and urged citizens to go about their lawful businesses.

The relaxation of the curfew is a welcome relief for the Muslim faithful in the state, who have been unable to attend Juma’at prayers due to the security situation.

The government’s decision is seen as a step towards restoring normalcy in the state, which has been affected by violence during recent protests over hardship and hunger.
