Normalcy is gradually returning to Karu, Nyanya, and Mararaba axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs as some business shops reopened on Friday 2nd August 2024.

Business owners had deserted these areas for fear of attack by protesters on Thursday leaving the streets and roads empty.

The protest which had turned violated on the 1st of August left many robbed and injured as hoodlums clashed with security men who were trying to protect lives and property.

Speaking to a driver at Nyanya motor park, James Obiora told our reporter “I just came from Makurdi today, the road is clear, there is no protest anywhere”.

Yesterday, motor parks in these areas were empty however, business activities have returned today with people buying and selling and vehicles loading on a small scale to various destinations.

Isah Adamu, a car spare parts dealer in Nyanya told Tribune that, ” yesterday I didn’t open the shop because I didn’t know how the protest would go, but today I have to open the shop after seeing people going up and down”.

Tribune tour to Mararaba witnessed heavy presence of security personnel around flash point, with no protesters in view.

Nathaniel Atume told our reporter that the protesters were not organized so he was not expecting them to come back today.

“They were not doing the right thing yesterday, rather than protest, the young men were going after people collecting their phones and other valuables while injuring many in the process.

“It was total chaos and we expected the security men not to tolerate such rascality from them today .Well, they have absconded and I believe normalcy will fully return in the next few days” he stated.

Even Karu, Nyanya, and Mararaba have remained scanty regarding people’s movement, there is relative calm and peace in these areas.
