The Ogun State Taskforce on Human Trafficking has reiterated the State Government’s commitment to remaining resilient in the fight against human trafficking and the smuggling of persons.
This was made known in a press release signed by the Taskforce Coordinator, Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi, and issued to pressmen in commemoration of the 2024 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on August 2, 2024.
Addressing the theme for this year’s commemoration, “Leave No Child Behind In The Fight Against Human Trafficking,” Shoremi recounted the state government’s recent efforts, including the ongoing institutionalization of its task force, advocacy visits to stakeholders, and partnerships with international partners to stem the tide of human trafficking.
“On February 6, 2024, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Government Secondary School, Gwarimpa Abuja, with one of our partners, the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), on a project tagged Schools Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project.

“The STEAP initiative, in collaboration with the national and state commands of NAPTIP as well as the state task forces on human trafficking, will support the government of Nigeria in the fight against human trafficking through increased awareness in Ogun schools and communities.
“In line with the theme for this year’s commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, our ongoing projects will support instructional programming within our schools and promote school clubs to raise awareness of the scourge of irregular migration and the smuggling of migrants.
“The governor has given a mandate to the task force to ensure Ogun State has zero tolerance for human trafficking-related crimes. All efforts are directed toward creating safer communities for our children and young people,” Shoremi said.
The statement further noted that the government will continuously pursue anti-trafficking objectives, including the creation of policies that support prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership in combating the ills of human trafficking.
