THE Vice President of the Apostolic Church Nigeria and Lagos Area Western and Northern Area (LAWNA) Territory, Pastor (Dr) Gabriel Okpako Uyeh, has urged the Federal Government to address the challenges of frustration and hunger in the country.

Uyeh made this statement during the press conference announcing the 48th LAWNA Annual International Convention with the theme, “We Shall All Appear Before The Judgement Seat of Christ,” which commenced from August 3 to 9, at the national temple, Territory International Headquarters in Olorunda Ketu, Lagos.

The cleric emphasized that Nigeria is currently facing challenging times. There is widespread violence, severe economic hardship, and social dislocations that seem impossible to resolve.

He called for national repentance and prayers for both the leaders and the followers, believing that Nigeria is still destined for greater things despite these difficulties.

He urged the leaders to accept that they are called to serve their people and not any other interest while showing empathy towards the suffering citizens and being exemplary in leadership.

“Nigeria can still be the pride of Africa. We can still reclaim our glory. Let me reiterate that I believe Nigeria will rise again. I see a greater Nigeria ahead of us.

“As a nonpartisan church, we must continue to pray for our country’s leaders, asking God to guide them in making the right decisions.

“The government should address the prevalent challenges of frustration and hunger in the land, be wise in spending, and uphold justice. Instead of viewing the people as opponents or enemies, they should see everyone as partners working towards the progress and peaceful coexistence of the nation,” Uyeh said.

He advised the government to directly participate in agricultural production, establish agro-industrial processing factories at the grassroots level, and focus on the rehabilitation/construction of rural roads and public transportation to lower food prices.

He mentioned that the ongoing protest was positive, but caution is needed to prevent hijacking by hoodlums.

He also reminded the Nigerian church of its responsibilities and speaking truth to power, he prayed for peace and the return to days when Nigerians were regarded as the happiest on earth.
