The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced the passing of the past chairman, of the NBA Ikeja branch, and activist, Adesina Ogunlana.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Akorede Habeeb Lawal, the association said it received the sad news in the early hours of today, August 7, 2024.
During his chairmanship from 2016 to 2018, Mr Ogunlana was said to have played an active role in leading the protest against the increase in the Land Use Charge introduced by the Lagos State Government in 2018.
NBA emphasized that in a time when the country’s citizens sought guidance from conscientious members of the legal profession, the passing of Adesina Ogunlana was a significant loss, as he was a true activist.
Mr Ogunlana is known for his dedicated commitment to the rule of law, effective administration of justice, and protection of human rights, as he was also actively involved in the Nationwide Hunger Protest in Lagos last week.
“Through his work as an advocate in the courtroom and as the publisher of Squib Magazine, Mr. Ogunlana, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday, left a lasting impact on the legal profession.
“The NBA and the legal community will miss Adesina Ogunlana, but more so will Nigeria.
“To his immediate family, friends, and members of the NBA Ikeja Branch, the NBA extends its deepest condolences.
“Please know that you are not alone in your grief; we share in your sorrow but find comfort in the legacy Adesina Ogunlana leaves behind. May Almighty God comfort us all, NBA stated.
Ogunlana was reported to have slumped in his office along Ikorodu Road, Lagos yesterday evening.
