Association of Freight Forwarding Practitioners of Nigeria (AFFPON) has urged the government to establish a price monitoring mechanism to ensure importers and traders benefit from the duty-free policy and sell commodities at affordable prices.

AFFPON President, Miftahu Ya’u Bachirawa, stated that this measure will enable Nigerians to feel the impact of the duty-free policy, which aims to reduce hardship and bring down prices of commodities.

Bachirawa commended the government’s decision to introduce a six-month duty and VAT-free policy on essential food items, saying it will reduce prices and alleviate hardship.

He emphasised that the policy, covering raw materials, agricultural inputs, fertilizers, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and food items, will positively impact the economy.

However, Bachirawa highlighted the challenges faced by freight forwarders, including economic hardship, inflation, and border closures, which have led to a nationwide protest.

He urged the government to address these issues to ensure the duty-free policy achieves its intended goals.
