The Oyo State Government, through the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) under the Nigerian Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program, has disbursed funds for thirty-eight micro-projects across fourteen communities in the state.

The disbursement followed the training of the Community Project Management Committees (CPMCs), which took place at the House of Chiefs in the Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan.

The Chairman of OYCSDA, Hon. Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga, who inaugurated the training, emphasized the importance of the beneficiary communities taking ownership of the micro-projects.

He highlighted that the projects are being executed under a Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach, ensuring their prompt completion, functionality, and proper utilization.

Adeaga also informed participants that the World Bank would reimburse the state for the micro-projects, provided the guidelines are strictly followed to ensure quality delivery and project sustainability.

“The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Mr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, is acutely aware of the existing infrastructural deficits and the current harsh economic conditions faced by the people of Oyo State.

His Excellency is not only determined to improve our situation but is also passionate and committed to transforming our state from poverty to prosperity.

“I would like to briefly remind you of two key principles of our agency: the community-driven development approach (CDD) and the program-for-results (P4R) approach, where the state government initially funds projects and then gets reimbursed by the World Bank upon successful completion, functionality, and utilization of the projects according to standard within the specified timeframe,” he stated.

The General Manager of OYCSDA, Mr. Salau Jelili, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for enabling the state’s participation in the NG-CARES program and approving the necessary funds for the execution of work plans. He noted that NG-CARES targets existing and emerging vulnerable and poor households affected by the

COVID-19 pandemic. OYCSDA is expected to focus on basic social infrastructural micro-projects in areas such as education, health, erosion control, nutrition, water, and sanitation.

The representative of the OYS-CARES Coordinating Unit, Mr. Lawal Kehinde, emphasized the need for unity, accountability, transparency, and a commitment to delivering quality projects in each community.

He urged committee members to involve others outside the committees to ensure a sense of belonging and collective input.

Among the benefiting communities are Isokan CPMC (Ibadan South-West Local Government), Olorunkemi CPMC (Kajola Local Government), Ogo-Oluwa CPMC (Olorunsogo Local Government), Ofa-Igbo CPMC (Lagelu Local Government), Oluwanisola CPMC (Irepo Local Government), Ojoo-Olanla CPMC (Akinyele Local Government), and Ebedi CPMC (Iseyin Local Government).

Others include, Jabata CPMC (Oyo East Local Government), Ifelodun CPMC (Ibadan North-East Local Government), Ire Akari CPMC (Kajola Local Government), Ayetoro/Ifelagba CPMC (Atiba Local Government), Ifesowapo CPMC (Ibarapa East Local Government), Ilupeju/Oriaje/Idi-Ope CPMC (Ibadan South-East Local Government), and Abudoro-Arulogun CPMC (Lagelu Local Government).
