The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr Akintunde Sawyer, alongside the Executive Director of Operations, Mustapha Iyal, and the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Lucky Emonefe, led a delegation to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Anambra State, on Thursday.
The purpose of the visit was to promote the NELFUND awareness campaign aimed at ensuring the effective enrollment of students from the South-East region.
The delegation was warmly received by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha.
In his remarks, Mr. Sawyer emphasised the critical role of education in national development, stressing that an educated populace is key to societal progress.
He noted that no student should be deprived of the opportunity for education due to financial constraints and highlighted the increasing number of student dropouts caused by economic challenges.
Mr. Sawyer lauded the Federal Government’s vision under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, explaining that NELFUND is designed to alleviate the financial strain of tuition by offering loans with flexible repayment options.
He expressed his gratitude to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for hosting the campaign and called for continued collaboration to spread awareness about NELFUND across the university.
Responding, Professor Omenugha expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s initiative and commended NANS for their leadership in providing students nationwide with access to financial assistance.
She assured the delegation that COOU students would enthusiastically respond to the programme and apply for the available loans.
