The Edo Police Command has arrested another suspect in connection with the January 7, 2023, attack and kidnapping at the Igueben train station.

The suspect, Ehis Jonah, 26, was arrested on September 1, 2024, a year and seven months after the incident.

Jonah, who reportedly confessed to his involvement in the train station attack, is said to have received N2 million as his share of the proceeds from the crime.

The suspect, paraded alongside 12 others for various crimes by the Edo State Police Command on Friday, stated that he was contracted to provide logistics for the other suspects using his motorcycle.

In an interview with journalists, he said, “I am a motorcycle rider and I was contracted by Amenvbagbe Ogelegbe to take him and others to the train station for kidnapping.

“He promised to pay me. So, I took them there. After everything, he brought N2 million for me and said that was my share of the kidnapping.”

The State Police spokesman, Moses Yamu, who paraded the suspects, stated that Jonah was apprehended after a police surveillance patrol stopped a motorcycle carrying him and two others on September 1, 2024. “During interrogation, one Techno Spark 9 handset in their possession rang.

“The call was placed on speaker, during which the caller stated that the owner of the phone, by the name Gazali Hassan, went missing on August 31 with his motorcycle.

“On the strength of this revelation, an investigation was launched, and it was discovered that the suspects had killed the said Gazali Hassan and taken his motorcycle.”

The police spokesman added that operatives subsequently mobilized to the crime scene along the Idumoza pipeline in Uromi, where they recovered the corpse.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of an additional seven suspects who have been terrorizing Edo Central in crimes such as the robbery at Osigholo filling station and the deadly attack and kidnapping at Igueben train station.

“Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting the remaining members of the syndicate and recovering their operational weapons,” Yamu stated.
