In line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for the education sector, the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has developed and completed a project on curriculum content delivery.

As a result, the Anambra State Unified Teaching Module for Primary Schools was launched during the ASUBEB Annual Retreat for Head Teachers, Officers in Charge, and Directors in Awka.

The unified teaching module was completed after months of hard work, integrating all current national curricula from the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

The module aims to improve and increase literacy and numeracy rates among primary school learners, eliminate outdated curriculum content, and ensure strict adherence to the approved uniform content and curriculum guide.

Previously, primary schools in the state did not use a uniform curriculum, which negatively impacted learning outcomes, especially in core public schools.

Thus, the board’s decision to establish a curriculum content delivery committee, working with subject teachers with proven track records (including both serving and retired teachers, as well as those co-opted from Lagos, Edo, and FCT), is a welcome development.

The curriculum was organized into a scheme of work, providing sample lesson plans for all subjects taught in primary schools and Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE). This aims to simplify content for teachers to deliver effectively and efficiently, maximizing benefits for learners.

The Anambra State Teaching Modules for all subjects will guide teachers and enhance learning outcomes. Additionally, the Montessori methods included will foster creativity in learners, preparing them to be functional members of society upon graduation from primary school, in line with the educational needs of 21st-century learners.

Undoubtedly, the Anambra State Unified Teaching Module for Primary Schools addresses the concerns raised by teachers who previously had to teach subjects outside their specialty.
