The NEEM Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has organised a joint bi-annual general conference for farmers and herders in Zamfara State, aimed at reinforcing ongoing peace efforts in the region.
The conference, held at Jaiz Hotel in Gusau, the state capital, was conducted in collaboration with the Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) and funded by the US Karuna Centre for Peace.
According to Mr Mustafa Mohammed, the Community Liaison Officer for the NEEM Foundation, the conference included a review of the five-year achievements of the peacebuilding initiative between the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), supported by the NEEM Foundation, VAI, and the Karuna Centre for Peace.
Key discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between farmers and herders to maintain peace and harmony within local communities.
“The conference unveiled a Joint Collaboration Team dedicated to advocating for unity and dialogue at the grassroots level, engaging stakeholders such as security agencies and local leaders for ongoing support,” Mr Mohammed stated.
The conference also provided a platform for dialogue to address issues related to sustainable cooperation and conflict resolution.
In attendance were leaders from both Macban and AFAN, highlighting the commitment of both communities to fostering peace and understanding.
