The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) achieved a remarkable victory in the September 28, 2024, local government elections in Anambra State, winning all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 21 local government areas.

The Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Genevieve Osakwe, announced the results at the ANSIEC office in Awka late Sunday.

Osakwe stated that APGA secured all 21 chairmanship seats and also won the councillorship positions in each local government area, as confirmed at the ward level.

Describing the election as the fairest, Osakwe emphasised that the commission meticulously collated and analysed the results to ensure accuracy.

During the announcement, she detailed the total scores of the APGA candidates, declaring them winners based on the highest votes cast.

Osakwe praised the citizens of Anambra State for their strong turnout and expressed gratitude to security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the process.

She stated, “This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councillorship election held on September 28, 2024. The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.”

“We ensured all scores and parties were announced at the polling units yesterday. We are here today to affirm the results as recorded. The election held at all polling units across Anambra State on September 28 was free, fair, and credible.”

Our correspondent noted that aside from APGA officials and party agents, no representatives from other political parties were present at the ANSIEC office when results were declared around 8:20 PM on Sunday.

In what appeared to be an acknowledgement of their losses, no opposition candidates or political party representatives attended the ANSIEC office during the announcement.
