Chief Judge Abiodun Adebara has ruled that public protests in Kwara State must be restricted to the Metropolitan Square in Ilorin, citing public order and safety concerns.

This directive was disclosed in a statement by Adesikeola Ajiboye, the Press Secretary for the Kwara State Ministry of Justice, on Monday evening.

In his ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by the Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, Justice Adebara granted an interim injunction.

The order prohibits the 4th respondents (unknown persons) and their agents from holding any public protests, rallies, processions, or meetings in any location other than the Metropolitan Square, Asa Dam Road, Kwara State, in the interest of public safety, on October 1, 2024, or any other date.

The court further directed the State Security Service, the Commissioner of Police, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure adequate security to protect lives, property, and public infrastructure during any planned protests or gatherings on October 1, 2024, or on any other day.

Additionally, the court ordered that court processes be served on the respondents by substituted service, to be posted at the High Court of Justice premises in Ilorin.

Justice Adebara noted that the interim injunction will remain in force for at least seven days and adjourned the hearing of the case to October 21, 2024.
