The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, has commissioned a solar power electricity project donated by the alumnae of the Federal Government Girls College, Oyo.
The solar electricity project was commissioned on Saturday during the celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary held at the school’s premises in Oyo.
Sununu, who was represented by the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Dr. Ademola Salami, appreciated the alumnae for their interest in the progress of their alma mater.
He added that the alumnae’s efforts to ensure educational sustainability and community development are recognized.
He further stated that alumni play a crucial role in fostering connections and supporting their alma mater.
“On behalf of the Minister of State for Education, I want to appreciate all the alumnae for their sincere interest in the progress of this alma mater. Your efforts to ensure educational sustainability and community development are recognized. I wish you all resounding success in all your endeavors,” he said.

Speaking on the 50th founders’ anniversary of FGGC, Oyo, the President of the FGGC Old Girls Association, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, described the anniversary as a milestone journey, stating that the school has positively impacted many Nigerian girls since its inception.
She noted that the school has produced women of excellence, adding that despite all the achievements, it still faces challenges, including a good road network, solar lighting, boreholes, and other infrastructural facilities needed by the school.
Atsenuwa emphasized that the federal government needs to articulate clearer strategies for the school’s future to compete with its peers in Nigeria.
She stated that the vision of the federal government in establishing FGGC, Oyo, has been achieved through the school’s impact on and modeling of the future for girls.
In her remarks, the Director/Principal of the school, Mrs. Fasedemi Ejilayo, said that the school has stood as a beacon of knowledge, growth, and an enviable community for the last 50 years, producing qualitative ladies who occupy important positions and make positive impacts across the globe.
“We are not relenting despite the fact that we are females. We look to the next 50 years with bright hopes and affirm our commitment to innovating objectives of providing educational resources and technologies, critical thinking, and empathy.”
She added that FGGC will continue to take giant strides whenever it finds itself.
Highlights of the event included the commissioning of legacy projects in the school, such as a newly renovated library, solar lights, and more.
