The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a statement urging residents of the Southeast region to disregard the sit-at-home order circulating on social media.

This order, which claims to be effective from October 21 to 22, allegedly warns residents to stay indoors, keep children from school, and businesses closed, with threats against non-compliers.

However, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, clarified that this order did not come from their organisation.

In fact, Powerful emphasised that IPOB has suspended sit-at-home orders and considers anyone declaring it a “criminal element”.

This move is likely aimed at mitigating the disruption and tensions caused by such orders in the past, which have crippled socio-economic activities in the region.

It’s worth noting that IPOB’s initial sit-at-home protests began in August 2021, demanding the release of their leader Nnamdi Kanu from prison.

However, the group now seems to be distancing itself from such orders, encouraging residents to continue their daily activities as usual.

By doing so, IPOB hopes to avoid giving undue attention to what they consider “inconsequential orders” from external infiltrators.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and disregard the unauthorised sit-at-home order.
