The Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), has launched an ambitious vaccination campaign aimed at combating anthrax, having already vaccinated over 200,000 livestock.

The initiative focuses on protecting cattle, sheep, and goats throughout the state, utilising a substantial supply of 540,000 doses of the Anthrax Spore Vaccine.

This concerted effort seeks to curb the spread of the deadly disease and enhance the health and productivity of livestock in Kogi State.

During a recent visit to one of the vaccination centres, Dr Olufemi Bolarin, State Project Coordinator of Kogi L-PRES, highlighted the importance of this exercise as a demonstration of the Kogi State Government’s commitment to improving livestock health and bolstering farmers’ livelihoods.

He urged farmers to actively participate in the campaign by bringing their animals for vaccination.

The vaccination initiative, supported by L-PRES’s donation of 500,000 doses of Anthrax Spore Vaccine to the Kogi government, is set to continue until November 8, 2024.
