The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday disclosed that it conducted precision airstrikes against Boko Haram at two key meeting sites in Bula Marwa, Borno State, resulting in the neutralisation of numerous militants in the process

This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja by Air Commodore Olusola F. Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information NAF

The statement explained that intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions had first detected increased motorcycle traffic and large gatherings, marking the area as a significant hub for Boko Haram leadership.

According to it, consequently, NAF fighter jets were deployed for the interdiction mission, pinpointing suspected terrorists at an initial rendezvous point on 12 motorcycles. ISR footage subsequently tracked the militants to a primary gathering location, which enabled the NAF to execute a successful airstrike, eliminating multiple targets.

It added that as additional militants returned to the site to aid the wounded, a secondary strike was launched, further diminishing their ranks.

The statement further explained that in a subsequent ISR sweep, another Boko Haram group was identified congregating at a nearby location.

According to it, “This intelligence prompted a second precision strike, which directly hit the target and neutralised more combatants.

” These operations significantly weakened Boko Haram’s operational capacity, thwarting their planned actions and reducing their ability to conduct future attacks.

Air Commodore Akinboyewa reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment, as part of Operation Hadin Kai, to employing strategic air power in combating terrorism, thereby enhancing security in northeastern Nigeria and protecting national sovereignty.
