French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the establishment of a triangular alliance including France, Morocco, and Africa to increase cooperation in vital areas necessary for growth, stability, and development,
Macron emphasised that the collaboration will concentrate on fields including education, agriculture, ecological initiatives, digital technology, and energy when addressing a joint session of the Moroccan parliament in Rabat on Tuesday during his three-day official visit to the North African nation where he gave an address.
“Morocco, by virtue of its geography, its history, its culture and the vision of its sovereigns, has long affirmed its vocation as a platform, a channel, a singular path,” Macron stated.
He further remarked on the Kingdom’s unique advantages, noting that its stability, openness, and development “are unrivalled assets which we recognise at their true value and which can inspire many joint initiatives.”
While addressing the Moroccan-Western Sahara issue, Macron reiterated France’s support for Moroccan sovereignty over the contested territory. “For France, the present and future of this territory lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. The autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the framework within which this issue must be resolved,” he said.
He added that, “The 2007 autonomy plan constitutes the only basis for achieving a just, lasting and negotiated political solution in line with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.”
He also commended Morocco’s steadying influence amid regional unrest by saying “In the current cacophony, in which extremes on all sides are indulging, Morocco has a strong and singular voice.”
Macron ended the address by explaining how a deepened partnership between Morocco and France aims to create a refreshed vision for future generations.
He commended Morocco’s commitment to diversity, dialogue, and tolerance, highlighting the country’s cultural values and saying, “The tolerant Islam promoted by His Majesty the King, commander of the faithful, challenges all forms of extremism.”
