Preparations are in top gear for the 2014 edition of the National Tourism Transportation Summit and Expo (NTTS/E) as the organisers have set the tone of the event to focus on creating synergy between the tourism and transportation sectors to boost economic growth in Nigeria.

Initially scheduled for April, the seventh edition of the NTTSE is now billed for December 3 to 5, at the Velodrome, Package A of the M.K.O. Abiola National Stadium in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, With the theme; Tourism, Transportation Connectivity: Accelerating The Synergy for National Economic Development.

According to the National President of the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for NTTS/E 2024, Chief Abiodun Odusanwo, this year’s event is expected to attract significant interest from both sectors, related industries and the general public.

Odusanwo, however, emphasised that this year’s focus will be on implementing the recommendations from the previous six editions of the summit, aiming to create a roadmap for industry players.

He noted that this implementation is designed to empower industry operators to better fulfill their roles, thereby maximising economic benefits and promoting growth and development for the country.

The summit will also address several critical areas like promoting substantial investments in waterfront properties, resource and etiquette training, and improving professionalism and customer service delivery at Nigerian airports by eliminating unwholesome practices.

Additionally, the Inter-Ministerial Committee has announced that a traditional host city walk will be held on Saturday, November 30, starting from the Old Parade Ground in Area 10, Garki, Abuja. This event is designed to help participants build their stamina in preparation for the summit.

The two-day Summit and Expo will feature paper presentations, discussion sessions, and exhibitions showcasing products and services from delegates and participants. There will also be Business-to-Business (B2B) and Government-to-Business (G2B) sessions to facilitate networking and collaboration.

Odusanwo explained that the NTTSE aims to provide a platform for operators in aviation, road, rail, maritime and hospitality sectors to showcase their products and services to consumers, business organisations, and regulatory agencies. 

The summit has been sustained through collaboration and partnerships among key players in the tourism and transportation sectors, including financial and insurance companies, transport operation facilitators, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporate entities, and the diplomatic community in Nigeria.

This year’s Expo is coming on the heel of the renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which seeks to create a framework and clear policy guideline on the need for a synergy between Transportation, particularly, aviation, tourism and to place the sector on a high pedestal of socio-economic growth.

An Award and Dinner/Gala Night will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2024, at the same venue. During this event, deserving practitioners, key stakeholders, and industry players will be inducted and honored. 

The induction ceremony recognises and celebrates excellence in travel, tourism, hospitality, and related fields. It aims to acknowledge individuals and organisations that have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional tourism transport experiences while encouraging continued high-quality service to attract returning tourists year after year.
