Equatorial Guinea has suspended officials involved in sexual activities within government ministry offices, Vice President Teodoro Nguema announced Monday.
The government, he warned, would implement “severe measures” to address behaviours seen as violations of the nation’s Code of Conduct and Public Ethics Law.
Nguema stated that the government is committed to a policy of zero tolerance towards actions undermining public service integrity, adding, “Responsibility and professionalism must be the pillars of our work as state servants.”
He stressed that ethics and respect are fundamental to maintaining public trust in government institutions.
This crackdown comes as the nation grapples with a sex scandal surrounding Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s Anti-graft National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF).
Investigators, during a fraud investigation, reportedly discovered around 400 explicit videos at Engonga’s residence and office.
The tapes allegedly feature Engonga with various women, including high-profile figures connected to the government.
The revelations are believed to have significant implications for Equatorial Guinea’s leadership, prompting the administration to reinforce strict measures and uphold accountability across public offices.
