Farmers under the auspices of Ondo Farmers Congress, (OFC) on Friday said it will work to ensure that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa continues as the governor of the state in the governorship election scheduled to be held on November 16.
The farmers who converged on Akure, the state capital, promised to mobilise 150,000 votes for Aiyedatiwa to ensure victory for Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The President of the farmers, Monilari Abayomi, said that the union’s decision to support the governor followed his achievements in all sectors, especially agriculture and road infrastructure development.
Abayomi said that the election “would ensure continuity and further development of Ondo’s agricultural sector.
The farmers’ endorsement was preceded by the unveiling of the N10 billion mixed-use housing project and the inauguration of new executive members of the Congress in Akure.
According to the farmers who came from across the 18 council areas of the State, expressed their support for the governor’s leadership and his impact on the agricultural sector in Ondo State.
Abayomi however, lauded the governor for his dedication to agriculture, particularly his policies that have fostered progress and innovation among farmers.
Highlighting several achievements of Aiyedatiwa administration, Abayomi listed the achievemonts to include the recent establishment of one of Africa’s largest goat breeding facilities, which has positioned Ondo State as a leader in sustainable animal farming and created job opportunities across the state.
He emphasised the importance of the N10 billion mixed-use housing project unveiled at the event, designed to provide essential infrastructure such as community centres and training facilities to support farmers and boost productivity.
Abayomi also announced the Congress’ commitment to mobilising 150, 000 votes for Governor Aiyedatiwa, expressing confidence that his full term in office would ensure continuity and further development of Ondo’s agricultural sector.
Responding, governor Aiyedatiwa, expressed his appreciation for the farmers’ endorsement, affirming his administration’s deep respect for the agricultural community.
Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the essential role that farmers play in food security and sustaining the economy and assured them that their efforts would never be taken for granted.
He elaborated on his administration’s commitment to supporting the sector, emphasising ongoing rural-urban road projects across the three senatorial districts, which aim to improve farmers’ access to markets and ease transportation of produce.
The governor pointed to various initiatives, including investments in storage facilities, mechanised farming, and affordable inputs, all designed to enhance agricultural productivity and safeguard food security.
He urged the farmers to come out in large numbers on November 16 to vote for continuity, highlighting that a renewed mandate would allow his government to sustain and expand on the developmental initiatives across the state.
