Red house on Thursday claimed majority of the medals to finish top of the table at the Iloko Model College 18th inter-house sports completions, which took place at the Iloko Model College field, Iloko-Ijesa.

 

 

The colorful competition, where parents, friends, teachers turned out in their hundreds to spur the children to success featured a lot of activities like high jump, sack race, javelin, scrabble, chess, discuss, shot put, the ball on, bursting the balloon, ludo, relay races, filling the bottles and lots more. The competition was not limited to just the students, but was opened to parents, teachers, invited schools and old students.

 

 

Red house topped the table with 10 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals, while Yellow house was second with 10 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals leaving Blue house in the third position with 4 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medal. Green house was fourth with 2 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals.

 

 

Speaking at the event, Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, HRM Oba Dr. Akeem Ogungbangbe commended the students for their performances. “Inter-house sports competition is a way of expositing the students to acquire sporting skills because education is not just limited to academics, they need to be sound in sporting activities too.

 

 

“A lot of them are well talented, so we cannot restrict them. It is also an avenue for everyone of them to showcase themselves and to prepare for the future,” he said.

 

 

Owaloko extended his gratitude to the sponsors, the teachers and the students for a job well done. “There is no loser in this year’s competition. All the houses, both the winners and those that lost should work harder.”

 

 

Also speaking, the principal of Iloko Model College, Pastor. Kayode Ogunwale said inter house sports is a way of discovering new talents, and to enable the students explore for the future. We believe in total development of a child, hence we encourage the students to participate in sporting activities,” Ogunwale said.

 

 

Captain of Red house and also one of the school prefect, Akeredolu David and Adepoju Mary, said they are proud as the captain of the house. “We are not the House captain last year, and we came first. Also this year, we are the winner. Hard work pays because every member of the house trained harder this time. It was not easy combining academics with training but we did it,” they said.

 

 

The Chairperson of the event, Prince Ahmed Ogungbangbe called for more support in helping the children achieve their potential, as they will represent the country at both national and international competitions. Continue Reading
