Tesla CEO and owner of X, Elon Musk, has thrown his support behind Matt Gaetz, a former Republican congressman from Florida, as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general.

Tribune Online reports that Trump announced on Wednesday the nomination of Gaetz, his longtime ally, as his Attorney General.

Gaetz’s nomination has sparked a mixed reaction in Washington. Conservatives have largely celebrated the move, viewing it as a bold statement against perceived government corruption, while many lawmakers across party lines have expressed concern.

Reacting to the development on Tuesday, dismissed the criticism against Gaetz selection and described him as ”Hammer of Justice” in a post on X.

He wrote, “Matt Gaetz has 3 critical assets that are needed for the AG role: a big brain, a spine of steel, and an axe to grind. He is the Judge Dredd America needs to clean up a corrupt system and put powerful bad actors in prison.”

Gaetz, a former congressman, resigned shortly after his nomination was announced. His career has been overshadowed by allegations of sex trafficking and misconduct, which led to a Justice Department investigation that ultimately resulted in no charges.

Also, the House Ethics Committee has conducted a year-long investigation into Gaetz, scrutinising accusations of sexual misconduct, improper gift acceptance, and drug use.

Gaetz has consistently denied all allegations. However, his critics are calling for the Ethics Committee to release its findings despite his departure from Congress.

Musk dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating, “Under our laws, a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. If AG Garland could have secured a conviction against Gaetz, he would have, but he knew he could not. Case closed.”
