Kwara State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Camry car, with registration number APP 443 CX, that was reportedly stolen from Lagos state in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi said that two suspects were also arrested in connection with the stolen vehicle.

The PPRO, who said that operatives of the command acted on intelligence that was received from a dealer in the popular motor spare parts market in Ipata-Oloje, Ilorin, added that detectives later apprehended the two suspects on Friday, November 22, 2024, at about 6:00 p.m.

The police spokesperson, who identified the suspects as Ganiyu Lawal (Male, 43 years old) of Babasoja, Gambari, Ilorin, and Ademola Waheed (Male, 45 years old) of Sango Road, Ilorin, said that the suspects were intercepted with the vehicle.

The statement read, “During a thorough search of the car, a GSM number linked to the owner, Mr Ajibade Abel of Badagry Road, Lagos state, was found. Upon contact, Mr Abel confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from a parking lot in Lagos state and that the case had been reported at Area ‘C’ Police Command, Surulere, Lagos state.

“The suspects admitted purchasing the vehicle for a suspiciously low price of ₦400,000 and intended to resell it in Ilorin for ₦1,000,000.”

The police said that further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices in order to unravel the full extent of their criminal activities.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya commends the public for their vigilance and urges continued cooperation in providing timely intelligence to ensure a safer Kwara State,” the statement added.
