The Delta House of Assembly will join forces with the governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to maintain transparency and accountability in the implementation process of the 2025 budget by ensuring that every naira is judiciously spent, Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo has said.

Reacting to the speedy passage of the N979.2 billion appropriation bill, tagged Budget of Fiscal Consolidation, in a statement on Thursday, Akpowowo said he was thrilled by the speed and successful legislative actions on the bill, adding that the 2025 budget will undoubtedly drive growth and development in Delta State.

According to him, it reflects the commitment of the state government to improving the lives of Deltans, stressing that he is confident it will have a positive impact on the economy and infrastructure.

He, however, acknowledged the enormous responsibility ahead in the implementation of the budget and charged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government to ensure they access the funds and utilise them efficiently and effectively for the benefit of constituents.

He said, “As Deputy Speaker, I pledge to work closely with Mr. Speaker and other stakeholders to guarantee that this budget translates into tangible benefits for our citizens.

“We’ll join forces with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, to maintain transparency and accountability in the implementation process and ensure that every naira is judiciously spent.

“This budget is a testament to our dedication to the welfare of Deltans, and we’re eager to see the positive change it will bring to our state,” Akpowowo stated.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker, who represents Ethiope East Constituency in the House, has been assigned to oversee the investigation of gross misconduct alleged to have been committed by two suspended members of the legislature.

The two members, who were suspended for 14 legislative days, are Hon. Chukwudi Dafe (Ukwuani) and Hon. Oboro Preyor (Bomadi Constituencies).

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, had earlier announced a 3-member ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged gross misconduct during Wednesday’s plenary of the House.

Members of the committee include Hon. Bridget Anyafulu (Oshimili South) and Hon. Benson Obire (Warri South 2), while Mr. Smart Edoge, a Deputy Clerk in the House, will serve as the committee clerk.
