Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia on Saturday announced his administration’s readiness to rename Benue State University after the former governor of the state, Rev Fr Moses Adasu of blessed memory.

Governor Alia announced this during the institution’s combined convocation ceremony held on the campus.

The governor stated that his administration had already forwarded an executive bill to the State House of Assembly for the renaming of the University as Reverend Father Moses Adasu
University.

Recall that Rev Moses Adasu, also a Catholic priest was a governor of Benue State between 1991 & 1992 during which he established the University.

According to the governor, “As a way of honouring the founder of this institution, our administration has sent an executive bill to the state assembly for this University to be named after the founder, Rev Fr Moses Adasu.

Governor Alia further announced that the university would establish a satellite campus at Adikpo in Kwande Local Government Area to ensure people from Benue North East senatorial district have access to university education.

He called on the management of the institution to liaise with the State Government to facilitate the realization of the satellite campus.

He also announced the donation of five hundred computers to the University computer based test center and also one hundred percent masters Degree scholarship to all the graduands who came up with first class degrees.

The governor however charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution and the state by upholding the values of integrity and hard work.

He commended Management of the State University for effective implementation of CEFTER with a promised to ensure the institution partners with the World Bank towards handling of post harvest losses by revamping the Wannune Tomato company and Taraku mills not only to improve the economy of the state but also create more jobs opportunities for the youth.

He called on the graduands to take advantage of the numerous agricultural policies of his administration by venturing into farming.

The governor promised that his administration would make available funds and farm inputs free of charge to enable them earn legitimate means of livelihood instead of continually looking for non existing white colour jobs.
