The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo has lamented the incidences of violence against women and girls which she noted has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.
She, therefore, stressed the need for an all-inclusive campaign to eliminate sexual and Gender-Based Violence (GBV), from the society hence the need for all hands to be on deck to fight the scourge.
The Kogi State First Lady, who stated these at an event in Lokoja, the state capital to mark this year’s International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women, said it was important for the people in the state and the country at large to embrace the campaign.
She explained that the event was to enlighten women in the state on the task ahead, thus charging them to carry the campaign to the grassroots.
While applauding the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of women in the Country, Hajiya Sefinat assured that her door would be open for partnership and support for women and girls.
In her remarks, Hajiya Fatima Momoh, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Kogi State, appealed to the government at the national and sub-national levels to create a conducive environment where women are free from all acts of Violence and marginalization.
Speaking in separate lectures, Mrs Juliana Omale and Mrs Oluwakemi Omeiza, urged women to educate themselves, recognize Gender-Based Violence and speak up when faced with violation.
The duo also appealed to the wife of the Kogi State Governor to provide shelter and empowerment for victims of GBV to give them the needed sense of belonging.
