A midnight fire has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the Alaba Rago Market in the Ojo area of Lagos State.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, razed several shops, leaving traders counting their losses.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Femi Oke-Osayintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the immediate and remote causes of the blaze remained unknown as of press time.
According to Oke-Osayintolu, LASEMA received distress calls about the fire and promptly activated its emergency response plan.
The agency’s Dolphin Response Team, alongside its Emergency Response Team from Igando, was deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that the fire had engulfed several structures and was threatening to spread further.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA operatives, and other responders worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, assured the public that the situation had been brought under control, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby properties.
