In celebration of the 75th posthumous birthday of the first two-term governor of Oyo State, Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi, we cannot but remember his leadership landmarks and celebrate his legacies.
Ajimobi was a man driven by excellence and that was reflective in his approach to governance. As a senator, he built a vocational training center that is still churning out graduates armed with requisite skills to eke out a living.
As governor of Oyo State, he laid solid foundation in the areas of security, health, education and infrastructure. What others could not even dare to dream, he dreamt, dared and achieved with an aplomb. The audacious constructions of model secondary schools across all senatorial districts of the state, the dualisation of the entry points of the major towns in the state; Iseyin, Oyo, Saki and Ogbomoso. For decades, Oyo State people could only fantasize about the dualisation of Idi-Ape to Bashorun to Akobo Road, he came and turned the fantasy into a beautiful reality.
He was bold, fearless, focused and committed on course of actions that would better the lives of the Oyo State populace. The security architecture he put in place returned peace to the notoriously turbulent Oyo State. As governor, no single incidence of bank robbery was recorded anywhere in the state. Indeed, the appellation of “Man of Peace” fits perfectly.
His legacies transcend sectors as his Midas’s touch of excellence could be felt across all sectors. He pioneered the concept of health insurance for Oyo State populace, made the state safe and secure for businesses to thrive.
I join people from all walks of life to celebrate his 75th posthumous birthday and to say his legacies are not only living, they inspire us.
