Delta State Police Command has reaffirmed its strict enforcement of the ongoing ban on fireworks, firecrackers, and other pyrotechnics during the Yuletide festive season.
This measure, according to Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda, is aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing criminal activities.
“Experience has shown that some criminally-minded individuals use these items as a cover to carry out nefarious acts.
“This ban is necessary to protect law-abiding residents,” the CP stated in a press release issued on 19th December 2024.
Parents and guardians are urged to dissuade their children and wards from using these items, while retailers have been warned against their sale or display.
“Anyone found flouting this directive will be arrested and prosecuted,” said Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright.
The directive underscores the potential risks fireworks pose, not only in terms of public nuisance but also as a security threat during the busy holiday period.
To ensure compliance, CP Abaniwonda has instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to closely monitor activities within their jurisdictions.
“Our officers are on high alert to enforce this ban and maintain peace throughout the Yuletide,” he noted.
The public has been encouraged to report violations promptly using the provided control room numbers, demonstrating the police’s reliance on community cooperation.
The Delta Police Command extended warm holiday wishes to all residents, emphasising their commitment to a secure and joyous celebration.
“We wish all Deltans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance,” said SP Edafe Bright. As festivities approach, the message is clear: safety and order come first.”
