Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has rejoiced with residents of the state, particularly the Christians as they join the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s Christmas, which marks the birth of Jesus Christ, assuring that his administration would do more for Lagos residents next year.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave this assurance while speaking at the Lagos House, Marina o during the presentation of a book, titled: “Beyond Rhetorics: Sanwo-Olu Unprecedented,” which was written in his honour by the Lagos State Governors Office Correspondents (LAGOCO).
Also governorship Candidate of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 General Election, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (JANDOR), enjoined Lagosians to embrace brotherly love and kindness as the world celebrates Christmas which showcases the birth of Jesus Christ.
The PDP standard-bearer made the call in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Gbenga Ogunleye, copy of which was made available to newsmen, describing Christmas as the celebration of a breath of fresh air in the relationship between God and mankind.
Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu in his felicatation message said, “We wish you all the very best of the season. We say to you that, next year, we will work better, smarter, bigger for the citizens of Lagos,” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, while appreciating LAGOCO for the book, described journalists, particularly those covering the Lagos State Governor’s Office as the “real engine of growth,” expressing to the Press Corp “for this initiative and to everyone who has contributed to the creation of this book.
The governor expressed his resolve to continue “to work towards a Lagos that is not only a hub of innovation and opportunity but also a beacon of hope for future generations.”
“We want to assure you that we will not disappoint you. We will ensure that the book is available in every nook and cranny of the state and even beyond the state.
“Through its pages, readers will find insights into the governance and leadership principles that guide our administration, as well as the collaborative spirit that drives our vision for a better Lagos.
“I extend my gratitude to LAGOCO for this initiative and to everyone who has contributed to the creation of this book. Together, we will continue to work towards a Lagos that is not only a hub of innovation and opportunity but also a beacon of hope for future generations,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Lagos State Governors Office Correspondents (LAGOCO), Mr. George Okojie, said Governor Sanwo-Olu had endeared himself to the residents through the projects executed in various sectors as captured in the book.
He commended him for sustaining the giant strides being recorded in the development of Lagos State.
The book presentation was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; the Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Bode Agoro; the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso and other cabinet members.
JANDOR said Christmas was a memorial of the love of God when He gave His all to express His love for humanity, urging Lagosians to pay keen attention to the message of love, peace and sacrifice, which Jesus preached during his time on earth.
The PDP chieftain enjoined Lagosians to love their neighbours as themselves, do good to them and wish them well, whether or not they belonged to the same faith or not.
According to him, the state cannot move forward until each and every one realises that what is good for one should also be good for the other, saying that every Nigerian must ensure that he is his “brother’s keeper by showing love and seeking peace with all mankind, as Jesus taught.”
He, therefore, called on religious leaders to always preach the message of love, peace, and good neighborliness to make the society a better and safer place for all, positing that religious harmony, peace and unity were some of the needed ingredients for development to thrive.
