The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, at N400 per litre.
According to the service, the initiative is designed to alleviate transportation challenges commonly experienced during the festive season.
Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, revealed the details of the initiative on Saturday during a press briefing held at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos.
He explained that the seized petrol, valued at N27.5 million, was confiscated during operations in Lagos and Ogun states.
Ejibunu further disclosed that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has authorised the auction, pricing the petrol at N10,000 per 25-litre container, which equates to N400 per litre.
He also confirmed that all necessary legal and procedural requirements, including a court condemnation order, have been finalised to ensure the auction proceeds smoothly.
“This operation, which began on May 27, 2024, has delivered positive results. The Comptroller-General has directed the operatives to sustain this momentum until the activities of economic saboteurs are completely eradicated in the country.”
“In line with this directive, the CGC has approved the auctioning of the seized petrol to the public at a rate of N10,000 per 25 litres. This measure aims to alleviate transportation difficulties during the festive period.”
