THE Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN) has commiserated with the authorities and peoples of Oyo and Anambra states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over the deadly stampedes that characterised palliative distribution programmes in the areas in December 2024.
The association, in a statement signed by its President, Professor Dhikrullah Yagboyaju and General Secretary, S.B. Odekunle, said it “remembers the departed souls and the injured and prays for their repose and speedy recovery, respectively.”
It said, “Also, we pray for comfort from Almighty Allah (SWT) for the families and friends of those affected directly and remotely, as well as for the governments and the generality of the people in the affected areas.
“Accidents do occur in every corner of the world. However, societies distinguish themselves in handling such occurrences so as to forestall frequent recurrence.
“In particular, the association acknowledges the economic challenges confronting the ordinary citizens of Nigeria at this time, but notes that hardship does not last, and in the case of Nigeria, it will, by Allah’s grace, become a thing of the past sooner than later.

“The Qur’an Chapter Verses 5-6 admonishes: ‘So, surely with hardship comes ease’. May Allah (SWT) be quick in changing every condition of misfortune for the good of the people and land of Nigeria.
“It is imperative to call the attention of relevant government agencies to the urgent need for concerted efforts towards preventing the recurrence of such ugly, unfortunate and sad incidents and assuaging the feeling of the people through reassurance of rigorous enforcement of strict adherence to safety standards and enthronement of robust welfare policies.”
